The Yes Problem

I have a problem. It’s the yes problem. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? Let me illustrate with a story. As I was talking with my husband earlier this week about our plans, I realized that I had inadvertently offered our luxurious guest suite (the sofa bed in the living room of our one-bedroom apartment) to guests for 3 nights this week, one night I had even accidentally double-booked the room.

While I genuinely love hosting people, I realized that I may have a problem if I am committing myself to hosting people multiple nights a week while working full time, taking full time classes, interviewing and hosting a potential new hire, spending time with my brother and his family that are in from out of town, all while secretly planning an engagement party for our best friends. As this week comes to a close, I find myself completely exhausted and over-worked, and I think it’s because of my yes problem. I genuinely want to do it all.

With the Thanksgiving Holiday right around the corner, I would urge you to say no to something this week to take time to reflect, spend time with the Lord, and be grateful (giving my weary self this advice tonight.)
