Chess Master 2000 on the Amstrad CPC6128 beated StockFish!

I set up a game between Chess Master 2000 on the Amstrad CPC 6128, versus the known StockFish engine that is implemented on lichess.org. Both engines were on Level 1. Chess Master 2000 has white, StockFish black. What follows is initially a very boring game lasting exactly 60 moves. At some point, StockFish starts to seriously blunder material.

Yes, a chess engine written in 1990 on a Z80 4Mhz computer with 128k of memory beat Stockfish Level 1. I took a dramatic shot during the game as well:

At some point in the game, White promoted a pawn to a Bishop instead of a Queen. It won anyway. It was crushing Black at the end.

I don’t know enough chess (I’m around 1000 Glicko-2 rating) in order to give insightful commentary. I definitely want to setup more games, certainly a rematch with StockFish playing White, as well as testing Chess Master’s multiple levels against StockFish’s.

I am surprised though that a 1990 engine running on a 4Mhz Z80 computer beat StockFish at its level. I said it again. What do you think ?
