Being a Role Model

Getting involved in your community is something that should take place as often as possible. There are many organizations that need support and volunteers on a daily basis. This being said, many people find it challenging to choose an organization to help, let alone the time. Something that I have found is that you don’t need to work with an organization to make a difference around your community. There are so many young people that go through life without a strong and positive role model. In my opinion, a mentor or role model is something that everyone should seek out at some point in their life, whether it be during childhood or at the start of a professional career.

If you are ever in the position to take on the role of a mentor, I highly suggest not letting it slip away. As a role model you have the potential to shape the life of someone who is less experienced than you. Sharing your knowledge with someone, whether it is about life or business, is one of the most rewarding experiences. There are many studies that support how beneficial having a mentor can be on the future of a young person. Though there are programs to get involved in mentorship, you can chose to be a role model for anyone you know. From your neighbor to your niece or nephew, helping to guide someone on the path of success is philanthropic in and of itself.

Another benefit of becoming someone’s role model is the accountability that you must hold within yourself. It’s hard to be mentor to someone if you don’t hold yourself accountable for your actions. Just as the captain of a team can not expect everyone but himself to complete a certain task. In a mentoring position, your every move is being watched by mentees and others looking up to you. By keeping a clean sheet, making moral decisions, and by holding yourself to high standards, you are setting your future as role model up for success.

Role models are lacking in the world. Sadly we often see people around the world being highlighted for acts that go against what it means to set a good example. If you are someone with a hard work ethic and a good set of morals you could be the perfect candidate to make a difference in someone’s life. Think about someone in your life that could benefit from your knowledge and world experience. That person’s life and future could be impacted and changed for the better with some dedication of your time.
