After films like Love Aaj Kal, Tamasha or Jab We Met, Imtiaz Ali should ideally have improved in his story telling. Neither did that happen nor did he get a good scriptwriter. The film takes you through exotic locations of Europe, with all Gothic structures in the background and a poor narrative dominating the screen. Pritam’s music is a big saviour, its for him that some moments of the film seem convincing. The romantic scenes are deeply layered under pretentious Gujarati accent which after a point no longer seem real. With evolution of cinema, SRK must look for more than the typical quintessential Rahul and Raj kind of roles. A Kabir Khan from Chak De to a Dr Jahangir in Dear Zindagi do the magic. I’m not saying he shouldn’t romance anymore, but perhaps rethink serving old wine in new bottles. The film fails to establish a connect, breaks into songs that fail to fit the situation or the tone of the film and leaves you with a bad after taste. I’m going with a 2 out of 5
