Old side project comeback

Here a media guy who never has been paid for coding a line. Still, I really enjoy coding. I found in React a great source of joy. React changed my way of thinking and facing projects, and not only code-related ones. I can’t think about any project without seeing a system of related components anymore. If you are a natural born developer you may not realize how big is this leap for a media studies guy.

I started with Action Script many, many, years ago. Yep, Adobe Flash was my first contact with code. Then, I read somewhere that AS was kind of a cousin of something called Javascript. After installing all that Oracle stuff, realized that Java was a total different business and tried some actual Javascript… Cool, it was pretty similar to AS! Then, met jQuery which was awesome but decided to stay with flash. It was much easier to get flashy results with it. Then, read about the incoming dead of the whole Flash thing and went back to html and jQuery. Always in a very hobbyist way.

Five years ago, I decided to go a bit further with my coding hobby and toke a 2 years official course. Didn’t liked it at all. Boring. At least, after that, when facing a problem I’d started looking for documentation and not tutorials . Then, I created an obvious-quiz-noob-project. It was my first fullstack project. Used Meteor to do the “job”. By then, didn’t know about React, I knew some Angular tricks after using it a couple of times but finally I went for Blaze. So, “Sàvies”, a quiz game about my tiny country, was born.

Then the Meteor guys just left the boat and went to create Apollo. I learned the Javascript fatigue by the hard way. To me, the struggling media guy, that situation was overwhelming. “I’d just been smashing my head to learn outdated crap” Well, I’d left “Sàvies” to die alone in a smooth fade out. I wasn’t in the mood to code Meteor anymore. And what in the hell was all that noisy React thing?
