The Commonly Neglected Job Of A General Practitioner

General Practitioner (GPs) also commonly known as family Physicians have a very crucial role in the western world. They are the back bone of the western health care. They are very often neglected in the Eastern part of the world, where patient usually want to see either the specialities or the community health workers. There’s nothing wrong with that and the difference of being seen by a GP, a Specialist or a Community health worker is enormous. I might point out the specific differences in upcoming articles.

The main purpose of this article is to explore the unusual role of the GPs in the community. We all know, that they actually make our health system smoothly functioning by directing the patients to the right place, by providing the initial mental health care, by becoming the bridge between Specialists and Patients, by becoming the conversation partner of a lonely Elderly-Soul. The list goes on. Providing primary care starts with comforting patients , knowing their environment, helping patients managing chronic disease and continues with providing company during the inevitable death and helping their families and friends grieve. These are all well known.

But this article is about unusual responsibilities the GPs have in the society, to control the road-injuries. Before talking about that, let’s see some stats about how deadly road-injuries are.
