These are Just Three Things that Caused Me to Think a Little Bit More Deeply Than Other Things Might Have Caused Me to Think

Point to Ponder Number 1

I was a courtroom litigating lawyer for 25 years. A 1970s Supreme Court case, Yoder vs. Wisconsin, defined our Christian beliefs — at least to the extent that they are protected by the U.S. Constitution and U.S. Supreme Court.

Most so-called ‘beliefs’ are not protected by the U.S. Constitution.

The court found that most of what we call beliefs are not really beliefs — but mere ‘preferences.’ I.e., we prefer baked potatoes to French fries. We like heaven because it’s GOOD, but we don’t like hell because it’s BAD. We believe certain things because they sound good, or because our pastor preaches them, or because we found a verse in the Bible we want to believe more than others.

The U.S. Supreme Court says these are not true beliefs.

Like our founders, we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor on our beliefs. We teach them to our kids. We share them with strangers. We want to change the WORLD — to help cause other people to leave what they cling to and embrace what we believe. The court said we’re willing to go to prison, or even die for our beliefs if they are true, real beliefs.

Hebrews repetitively shows the difference between (1) the Old Covenant law, vs. (2) the New Covenant gospel of grace. This reflects John 1:17: “The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” Also…
