devouring, ravenous. Instinct
reaching out, taking hold of
everything
in their slender hands; fierce minds reduced to
an otherworldly gaze of wide & haunted, dis-
connected, unwavering
intensity —
inside their heads a constant
gnawing

economy tightens another notch;
bones line out sharp,
cheeks invert and
those fragile skulls rise up beneath stretched and shining skin,
stealing away their faces and leaving them

(gaunt)

fox-eyed,
their bellies empty as the cabinets
by the 23rd.
