The Worst Leader That No Business Is Talking About

We’ve seen and dealt with bad bosses before. But what about the leader that’s never there?

These characteristics you see all the time in government, school, and business and we can all relate to this in some capacity. But over the years, there has been another kind of “leader” who has slipped under the radar.

One that businesses and people generally don’t want to deal with. In fact, it can be difficult to spot these kinds of leaders.

These leaders are not the type who make a point of misbehaving, nor are they ranting about pointless things or being a narcissistic sociopath. Rather, these are the leaders who are leaders only in title — an absentee leader.

These are the leaders who are put into leadership roles but are psychologically absent from those positions. They are people who are now in management, enjoy the perks, privileges and rewards that it brings, but purposely avoid providing anything meaningful to the teams they manage.

Another way to look at these leaders is that they embody the concept of rent-seeking in economics. They extract the value of the organization without providing any input themselves.
