Joe Would Not Be Proud of Me

Why I lost my temper, and how I found it again

Joe Biden visited Erie, PA, today.

We Democratic volunteers were elated when we learned he was coming! I live in a rural area south of Erie, and I was determined to see him.

But then we were disappointed to learn the event was limited to a tiny group, by invitation only, because of coronavirus. Of course, because Joe and the Democrats believe in science and safety.

The woman who coordinates Dem volunteers in Erie emailed us all with the location and time of Biden’s visit because we wanted to be there to greet him. So off I went to a union hall where Biden would be meeting with locals.

About 300 Biden supporters lined the road outside the union hall. All of them masked-up.

There were about 50 Trump supporters there, too. None of them wore masks. A public health measure has become a political statement to them.

I wore my Biden shirt, and I went to stand near the Trumpsters. A county sheriff asked me to move away from them. I grudgingly complied.

One of the Trumpsters had a sign that said, “Law and order, Joe.” I told the sheriff I support law enforcement, too, and that Trump was the biggest law-breaker in the country. I told him my last name, and he recognized it as the last name of some local law enforcement officers. I told him those officers were my nephews and nieces, and I thanked him for being there. He said I was a mature woman, but he had to be there to separate grown adults. I agreed, then moved away.

A Biden supporter had planted yard signs along the road before the Trumpsters had gotten there. The Trumpsters decided they didn’t like the signs in front of them. One obnoxious guy started pulling them out of the ground. The woman who owned the signs objected, took the signs, and planted them back in the ground.

A Trump fan made a stupid remark, and I yelled at them, “Go fuck yourself!” The sheriff who had just called me a mature woman was shocked at this old lady’s language. He staggered back as if a blast had hit him! I turned and walked away.

Geez, I hope he doesn’t tell my kin their old aunt was there screaming obscenities.
